09/10/2006 - IT Jobs market in the Midlands remains strong despite drop in demand

CV Screen, the leading IT Recruitment Consultancy, reports an 8.2% decrease in the demand for permanent IT professionals in the Midlands region during Q2 2006.

The report which analyses the IT Jobs market in the Midlands, also reports a 20% drop in the number of applications received during Q2. Despite this, CV Screen’s Account Manager Rachel Brayne insists that the outlook for the Midlands region is strong: “Following incredibly high demand for IT staff in Q1, we anticipated that there would be a slight slowdown. The market is always so buoyant in Q1, largely as a result of the traditional post Christmas / New Year blues and so many candidates were able to secure new positions in this period. The subsequent drop in demand during Q2 was to be expected.”

The report which monitors over 30 permanent IT positions in the Midlands region also highlights that demand for .Net, Java and Software Testing skills are high “We have seen continued high demand throughout the year for certain skills and there is no doubt that the war for talent is once again developing pace.”

Despite the findings of the report, Brayne is confident that the Midlands region will continue to thrive: “All of the Government data for the region show that business activity levels are remaining at high levels and we believe that demand for staff will remain strong for some time yet.”
